Hey Danielle. Sounds awesome. Yes, this year sure has flown. I am already preparing for my 2nd Chairpersonship and Movational Speaking gig next week, got a 90% rating on the last one so yeah, I agree with you that if you market yourself properly doors of opportunity open that you wouldn't even of thought of. I will have to reconsider changing my business name slightly to get rid of the 'assistants' part, all in good time. So many irons in the fire at the moment making life look interesting and the future bright. Keep on doing what you doing because you are AWESOME! Lol as always, me xoxo

Giving is so important in our business and personal lives. I agree that the gift of time can be a huge one. For example, around the Christmas holiday rush, I offer my time to other friends with children. I offer to watch their little ones for a couple of hours so they can get that holiday shopping done sans kids. I also donate my talents to a local non-profit. I use the VA skills that I already have to help them out when I can. It not only feels great to do for others, but it gets your name out there as someone who really cares about their community.

Thanks honey. Ironically, they agreed to my upfront deposit payment of 50%, sent me proof that the client was depositing (what they forgot to say is the client was paying into their bank account)and then renaged when I was already at the venue. I sent them professional quotes and invoices all of which they accepted as they never disputed it. I am the only one who has all the agreements in place as opposed to them who have none so am in a good position to hand them over which they even had the audacity to welcome (tells alot about the calibre of organisation). Fridays are my day off to do whatever I wish :-) so I just thought, what the hell, let me take the assignment. Has that bit me in the arse. I'm not into subcontracting as I don't believe in it really as I then may just as well become a temp/contract worker for a major corporation lol :-) (no offence). I am however blogging on this and have re-published your article as I would love to share this experience for VA's who do sub-contract and perhaps share the legalities out there for recourse. South Africa is a country wrought with mistrust so to have a VA organisation out there exploiting other VA's will not sit well with the readers who subscribe to my blog! We are trying everyday to rebuild our country as it is beautiful! Have an awesome weekend further, Arlene

Oh, that's a tough situation for sure. I know it can leave a bad taste in your mouth. But there ARE good people out there you can trust who will treat you honestly and ethically. Don't let one bad group sour you on all the rest out there.

Plus, moving forward, this might strengthen your resolve to focus on building your own business and not waste time dinking around with subcontracting that only build someone else's business.

Or, if you did ever decide to take on any subcontracting, you know some of the pitfalls to avoid in the future and get those understandings and expectations worked out upfront... perhaps even require payment upfront. I did that on those occasions back in the day when I did a few subcontracting gigs.

I'm too afraid to even comment as I'm going through the exact same thing. Funny thing tho', I had to initiate an agreement in writing on email and Skype tho' not my official agreement. They agreed to all my payment terms and even stated in writing that they would be paying me, to date have still not paid me as they apparently waiting for client to pay them. It sickens me to think that I may have to go the legal route as we are a new industry and should not be suing each other however they stated they don't care, I'd CARE especially if my reputation is at stake. I doubt I will do business with this South African group again or any other VA's! Just shows, there is no such thing as waivers and favors or friendship in this industry!
